When you switch to a Mac after using Windows, things are going to be different. For awhile you are actually going to notice that you are a bit slower at your new system since you don't know where everything is like you used to on your Windows system. One thing that is important that will help you speed up your computer use is learning your keyboard shortcuts. Find out some of the basics of this on your new Mac system.
Why do you need to learn keyboard shortcuts?
Technically you don't ever have to learn the shortcuts. You can just use your mouse to point and click on everything. The issue with that is that it takes a long time to do that. You will be much faster learning keyboard commands since you can be using those with your left hand as your right hand is using the mouse. Essentially you can get more work, research, or play done using both hands on your computer at once.
In Windows most keyboard commands start off by holding the Control key. The Mac works a bit different. The Command key near the space bar on the Mac keyboard replaces what the Control key does in Windows. If you know the Windows shortcuts, just try using the same ones with the Command key and generally they are the same but not always. For example, in Windows to copy and paste text you use Control C and Control V. On the Mac you can use Command C and Command V.
When you open an application on your Mac, browse the keyboard shortcuts. Check them to make sure that you understand what they are so that you can start using them. You might not memorize all of them but at least get the basics.
Open the Max OSX keyboard shortcuts programs and you will have full access to the system shortcuts to understand what they all are. You can also look all those up online if you choose to do so.
